Elevate Your Voice. Be A Nurse Advocate.

Grassroot Advocates - An Army of Delaware Nurses

DNA coordinates Grassroots Advocates across the state. We provide nurses with notice, draft messages, and resources to connect with their legislators on topics important to nurses. Any nurse can serve as a Grassroot Advocate. Make sure you are signed up for emails from DNA by clicking here and subscribing to "advocacy alerts."

Grasstop Advocates - 1 Nurse for Every State Legislator

DNA has implemented a Grasstop Advocate program. To serve as a Grasstop Advocate, you must be a member of the Delaware Nurses Association. You are an influential and supported partner in our advocacy and government relations work. Our goal: ensure there is at least one nurse matched to every state legislator (Senator and Representative). DNA works with these advocates to strategically connect with and amplify our message with each legislator, from a recognized nurse in the legislator's district. Email and ask to sign up for the Grasstop Advocate program.

The impact? Delaware's legislators hear directly from DNA, from a recognized nurse in their district, and from numerous Grassroot Advocates in their district. This is the power of 25,000+ nurses working together to advance nursing and health.

Delaware General Assembly

The Delaware General Assembly is comprised of 21 Senators and 41 Representatives. The legislature convenes on the second Tuesday of January and meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until June 30 of each year.

A General Assembly meets for 2 years, the first year being the first session and the second year being the second session. All bills carry over from the first year to the second year. Legislation not passed by the end of the second session is not carried over to the next General Assembly.

Delaware Executive Branch

Comprised of the Governor, their office, and their Cabinet, the executive branch is established by Article III of the Delaware Constitution and provided certain powers and privileges to govern Delaware. DNA works with the Governor's office on legislation, policy, and appointed positions to state Boards and Commissions. The Executive Branch also includes Delaware's Lieutenant Governor who presides over the Senate, among other duties.
