University of Delaware Summit on the Opioid Epidemic

We invite you to the University of Delaware Summit on the Opioid Epidemic, hosted by the Delaware Behavioral Health Consortium, the University of Delaware Department of Communication, and the Center for Health Communication. Join us on Thursday, September 12th, 2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Audion in The Tower at STAR on the University of Delaware’s campus. This important event will bring together community agencies, policymakers, mental health advocates, and other key stakeholders for a critical discussion on strategies to combat Delaware’s opioid epidemic crisis.

The summit will feature the full premiere of the groundbreaking documentary “Silence on the Streets.” This film provides a unique perspective on the challenges faced by inner-city Black, Latino/a/x, and Indigenous community members in recovery and highlights complex issues surrounding addiction within these communities.

Community advocate and filmmaker Sharece Sellem-Hannah will share her experience producing the film and community reactions from Unity Dinners held across the state this summer. Unity Dinners are “for us by, by us” opportunities to discuss issues related to mental health, drug abuse, and harm reduction to identify impactful solutions. Community leaders gather to break bread and stigma around addiction, mental illness, and the path forward.
